Not every site works like the open road. Corporate yards, bus yards, military bases, and other secure facilities often carry privacy or union requirements that call for recording to stop while a vehicle is on site. At other locations, certain safety events don’t reflect real risk: stop sign detection at a landfill, hard brake detection in a quarry, or mobile device alerts at a refueling station.

Without location-based controls, managers may need to turn off recording manually or dismiss safety events, which can leave privacy gaps and add noise to reports.

That’s why we’re introducing Geofence Privacy and Event Suppression. Managers set rules that automatically change camera behavior within seconds when a vehicle is inside a chosen geofence. The connection happens on the device so the rules continue to work in areas with no cellular coverage. Cameras return to normal behavior once the vehicle leaves.

Meet privacy requirements automatically with location-based camera controls

Admins build rules from a prebuilt template with Agents, powered by Motive AI. The workflow is built into the Motive platform and uses existing safety and operations data organizations already collect to automate actions. Optionally target specific vehicles individually or by group, and individual geofences or by category. When a vehicle is inside a selected geofence, the rule can:

  • Turn on Driver Privacy Mode. Stop driver-facing recording and driver-facing event detection. Drivers get a clear confirmation that the driver-facing recording is off with a green LED indicator.
  • Stop camera capture. Stop recording from both driver-facing and road-facing cameras. Collision detection also turns off, and the Motive Dashboard makes that clear when you create the rule. The camera’s LED turns off so drivers can see recording has stopped.

Drivers get location-specific privacy without a physical lens cover, and managers can’t live stream or access the live view.

Reduce unnecessary alerts with site-specific event suppression

Keep cameras recording and turn off detection for specific safety events, such as seat belt violations in your yard, or for all eligible events. Turning off an event also silences its in-cab alert, reducing alert fatigue for drivers and managers. Managers no longer dismiss those events by hand, so drivers’ Safety Scores stay accurate.

Admins can combine actions in one rule, such as turning off the driver-facing camera and stop sign detection together.

Enforce rules reliably, even without cell coverage

Rules run on the device, not in the cloud. The device checks its location and applies the change in seconds, with or without cellular coverage.

No separate exit rule is needed. Outside the geofence, cameras follow your current Motive Dashboard settings, and any changes made while the vehicle was on site carry over. The device stays powered and keeps reporting location and telematics.

The payoff is simple: privacy where sites require it, fewer alerts that don’t reflect real risk, and less manual cleanup. Geofence Privacy and Event Suppression is now available as part of a phased rollout through Q4 ‘26 in the U.S. on the AI Dashcam, and is coming soon to AI Dashcam Plus.
