Driver privacy is core to building trust and retaining drivers. The Motive Dual-Facing AI Dashcam helps prevent accidents and keep drivers safe, but how video is captured and used should also reflect your drivers’ privacy expectations and your fleet’s requirements.

That’s why you need flexible controls that balance safety with privacy, giving drivers confidence their privacy is respected.

Expanded Driver Privacy Mode options

Available to all customers mid-December, Motive will offer new Driver Privacy Mode settings that give you more choice in how video is captured and used.

  • Driver Privacy (AI On) – Get AI-powered safety insights while preserving privacy. AI detects unsafe behaviors like cell phone usage, drowsiness, and seat belt violations without cloud storage of driver-facing video. Drivers still receive in-cab alerts, and safety events appear on the Motive Dashboard without video for coaching. You can fully customize the alerts and control who can access driver-facing footage.
  • All cameras off while idling – Turn off both driver- and road-facing cameras when the vehicle is idling. This is especially useful at job sites where recording isn’t allowed but the vehicle must stay running to power equipment or provide heating or cooling for workers.

More ways to protect drivers off the road

These new settings build on existing Driver Privacy Mode features, which already give you the flexibility to control when and how the driver-facing camera operates, while the road-facing camera continues to record.

  • Off while idling – Disable the driver-facing camera after three minutes of idling, letting drivers take a break while keeping the vehicle running for heating or air conditioning.
  • Off when engine is off – Disable the driver-facing camera when the vehicle is off, safeguarding privacy during breaks or off-duty periods.
  • Always off – Keep the driver-facing camera disabled at all times for vehicles where in-cab video isn’t needed, such as when easing drivers into dash cam adoption.
  • Always on (default) – Enable video recording and AI detections on both the driver-facing and road-facing cameras.

Drivers get clear confirmation that the interior recording is off with a green LED indicator on the AI Dashcam. Privacy settings can be customized by vehicle or fleet, giving you complete control over how video is captured and used.

Meet regional privacy requirements

Operating across multiple states or countries means following different privacy rules. Motive makes it simple to stay compliant while providing AI-powered safety insights.

To help protect privacy and support compliance with privacy regulations such as the GDPR and UK GDPR, Motive can now automatically blur faces and license plates in road and driver-facing videos and images. In North America, you have the ability to enable or disable blurring per camera, and even choose to just blur passengers. Every blurring and unblurring action is tracked for accountability. Available mid-December in the UK, coming to the U.S. later this year.

Privacy and safety, together

With Motive, you don’t have to choose between protecting driver privacy and improving safety. You can comply with union rules, meet regulatory requirements, and still access the AI-powered insights that help reduce accidents.

Because when drivers know their privacy is respected, they trust the technology. And that trust makes every organization safer.
