Navigation that works for commercial vehicles
Today, drivers manage compliance, maintenance, and other tasks in the Motive Driver App, but must switch to external apps for route navigation, creating a disconnected experience and unnecessary steps. Additionally, the navigation apps many drivers use were built for passenger vehicles, not trucks, meaning drivers are often sent on routes with low bridges, weight-restricted roads, tight turns, or hazmat-prohibited routes. That can lead to delays, fines, missed delivery windows, higher fuel spend, unnecessary operating costs, and driver frustration.
Motive’s new embedded commercial navigation experience is built directly into the Motive Driver App. Drivers can now follow navigation with truck-safe turn-by-turn directions with no need to utilize external passenger vehicle-focused navigation apps.
Truck-safe navigation, built into the Driver App
With embedded commercial navigation, drivers get route suggestions and turn-by-turn guidance designed for commercial vehicles, with routes tailored to vehicle dimensions, weight, axle count, and hazmat restrictions. This helps keep drivers on legal, vehicle-appropriate roads, improve arrival time accuracy, and avoid routes that are unsafe, restricted, or physically impossible for trucks.
With navigation embedded in the Driver App, drivers can see a holistic view of compliance alongside their route. For example, drivers can see their remaining hours of service directly on the navigation screen, helping them stay aware of available drive time without leaving the workflow or losing focus on the road.
For drivers, that means less context switching, less uncertainty, and less stress. Instead of second-guessing whether a route is safe for their vehicle, they can stay in one workflow and navigate with more confidence.
Enhanced visibility, control, and cargo protection leads to increased profitability
For fleet managers and dispatchers, embedded navigation reduces disconnected workflows by bringing navigation, hours of service, dispatch updates, and inspections into one place. They can see live ETAs, distance and the suggested route in the Motive Dashboard. They can also easily identify if a driver deviates from the commercial-safe route and drives on restricted roads which helps provide context for compliance violations and driver coaching. Instead of bouncing between apps, drivers stay in a single workflow, which helps reduce friction, improve data accuracy, keep critical tasks from being missed, and support more efficient operations.
Embedded navigation also gives back-office teams greater operational visibility and control. Fleet managers can set route preferences, such as avoiding toll roads, and better understand the impact on arrival times. It gives safer routes, fewer distractions, stronger compliance, and a more connected driver experience leading to safer transit of cargo and increased profitability.
