With Motive’s new geofence-based risk alerts, you’ll be able to create risk zones within your geofences and receive timely alerts when vehicles interact with them. Gain real-time visibility into critical safety issues, such as unexpected stops in unsafe areas or drivers approaching high-risk zones, so you can act immediately to address emerging concerns.
Track fleet activity inside or outside specific areas
Geofencing in the Motive Dashboard helps you track fleet activity inside or outside specific areas. This new feature takes geofence functionality even further with the ability to designate certain areas as risk zones and create tailored alerts designed for theft prevention and rapid incident response.
Motive provides two kinds of alerts for geofence-based risk zones:
- Vehicle stopped inside risk zone (for X minutes):
If a vehicle remains stationary within a risk zone beyond your set duration, Motive automatically sends an alert. You can quickly check on the driver, investigate, or take action before the situation escalates. - Vehicle approaching a risk zone:
Motive alerts you when a vehicle enters a designated zone within a distance you set. This gives you an early warning when a driver may be entering a high-risk area, allowing you to reroute, confirm the trip is authorized, or prepare for security monitoring if needed.
With Motive’s proactive risk zone alerts, you can prevent theft or safety issues instead of just reacting to them after the fact.
Proactively prevent theft and loss
Fleet operators face increasing risk, including cargo theft and targeted hijacking in high-risk areas. Responding to incidents reactively, after they occur, after an incident often leads to lost assets, shipment delays, and financial losses.
With Motive’s geofence-based risk alerts, fleets can prevent these losses by:
- Proactively preventing theft. Get notified the moment a vehicle approaches a designated hotspot, giving you time to look into what’s happening or adjust routing.
- Accelerating incident detection. Instantly receive alerts when a vehicle stops in a risk zone, enabling you to quickly reroute vehicles or launch recovery efforts if assets or cargo are compromised.
- Reducing financial losses. The sooner you’re alerted to an incident, the greater your chances of recovering assets and minimizing impact.

Set up risk zones in the dashboard
Setting up risk zones is easy and straightforward:
- Create or edit a geofence in the Motive Dashboard.
- Designate it as a risk zone and set your alert preferences.
- Assign alerts to specific vehicles and drivers for monitoring.
From there, the system takes care of the rest, continuously detecting activity, issuing instant alerts, and logging events so you can respond effectively.
