At Motive, our mission is to empower the people who power the physical economy, whether they fuel their fleets using diesel, gasoline, or electricity. Today, we’re excited to announce a significant step forward in that mission: the acquisition of InceptEV‘s assets, a software startup specializing in advanced battery intelligence utilizing technology licensed from Carnegie Mellon University coupled with machine learning for electric vehicles (EVs).

This acquisition enhances our Integrated Operations Platform, providing customers with more precise EV forecasting and lower electrification costs.

Bringing battery intelligence to fleet management

InceptEV’s patented battery intelligence software will be integrated into Motive’s AI-powered fleet management platform. This integration offers operations managers accurate insight into EV performance, taking into consideration real-world conditions such as terrain, weather, traffic, cargo, and driver behavior. By reducing uncertainty, we aim to facilitate a smoother transition to EVs for commercial fleets.

We’re also pleased to welcome Venkat Viswanathan, co-founder of InceptEV and faculty at the University of Michigan, as a strategic advisor. Venkat is a leading expert in EVs and brings invaluable expertise to our team and our customer base.

Addressing the challenges of EV fleet adoption

Transitioning to an electric fleet is complex. Many fleets have been running on diesel or gasoline for as long as they have been in business. While the move can positively impact a company’s environmental and sustainability goals, it can also increase costs by up to 114%. Despite technological advancements, challenges such as range anxiety, limited charging infrastructure, and energy costs persist.

Current EV planning tools can be too simplistic and inaccurate based on fixed numbers, often overestimating range and leading to poor planning, higher costs, and slower buy-in. Integrating InceptEV’s battery intelligence into Motive’s platform will give companies greater control with personalized insights to understand how their EV fleet will actually perform in the real world.

Abhishek Gupta, Senior Vice President of Product Management here at Motive, added, “Our customers see fleet electrification as a major opportunity and are navigating how to pursue it in a way that maintains productivity, compliance, and cost-efficiency. With this acquisition, Motive is helping fleet operators confidently scale their EVs through better data, smarter decision-making, and greater visibility into performance.”

Enhancing regulatory compliance and sustainability

Motive is supporting fleet regulatory compliance with California’s CARB Clean Truck Check program, by submitting its product for certification under the program. Once certified, Motive’s CTC product will help customers streamline emissions reporting and stay ahead of evolving regulatory requirements, reducing administrative burden while supporting broader sustainability goals.

Introducing New EV Reporting Tools

This acquisition is just the beginning. Later this year, Motive will release new reporting tools to help customers better manage and scale their EV fleets. Our new Energy Usage and EV Charging Reports will provide side-by-side vehicle comparisons showing battery consumption and utilization trends.

By providing companies with more visibility into their EV fleet data, Motive will help reduce operational costs and optimize route planning.
