Back in 2013, Motive started its mission to connect the world’s trucks with the free Motive Electronic Logbook App. The Motive App at that time simplified how commercial drivers log their Hours-of-Service.
Six years later, we’ve expanded our products and features to an FMCSA-registered electronic logging device (ELD), a feature-rich fleet management platform, the Motive Smart Dashcam, and the App Marketplace (which helps fleets connect to industry-leading third-party integrations). This suite of tools enables drivers and fleet managers to operate more efficiently, intelligently, safely, and reliably.
From a relatively straightforward mobile app to a full-fledged fleet management system that over 250,000 drivers and 50,000 for-hire carriers rely on, we continue to reshape the trucking industry. And our talented engineers have been at the forefront, building innovative ways to make our customers’ lives easier and solving challenging problems along the way.
We recently launched the Motive Engineering Blog, which gives you an inside look at our thought process behind the technology. Ryan Johns, Motive’s co-founder and CTO, wrote the first blog and explains the technical evolution behind the company.
The first blog post discusses:
- How we gathered feedback to improve our product
- The largest outage the company has ever experienced (and how we fixed it)
- The infrastructure we have now and our growing team
Join us on the ride and follow the Motive Engineering blog if you’re interested in learning more about how we are constantly evolving to meet the growing needs of the industry.

Motive was recently honored with the Glassdoor Employees’ Choice Award. We were also recognized as a winner of the 2019 Bay Area Best Places to Work, an awards program presented by the San Francisco Business Times and the Silicon Valley Business Journal.
