Artificial intelligence (AI) can prevent incidents and save lives, but only when it performs as promised. In the Motive webinar Saving Lives with Smarter Tech, two fleet leaders shared what it takes to make that promise real.

Ryan Ennis, Chief Information Officer of FusionSite Services, and Chris Jaffe, Senior Vice President of Technology at Agmark Logistics, explained how they adopted AI, what they learned along the way, and how the right partnership turned technology into measurable results.

For enterprise fleets evaluating AI dash cams, their experiences provide a clear framework for choosing a solution that delivers on its promise.

1. Look for accurate detection of unsafe driving behaviors

For fleets operating in high-risk industries, accurate detection of unsafe driving behaviors can make the difference between a close call and a costly collision.

“When we were first looking at dash cameras, AI was still fairly young, and we didn’t use AI as a differentiator for our initial decision making,” Agmark’s Jaffe said. “But we trialed several different dash cameras, and AI stood out as the differentiating factor. We actually switched from one of the competitors to Motive and found that when we were running them side by side, the accuracy of Motive’s results was fantastic.”

That accuracy helped change not just Agmark’s safety outcomes but how Agmark’s safety team engaged with the technology. When AI delivers consistent, correct detections, fleets start trusting the technology — leading to faster, more effective coaching.

We’ve had a complete change from the safety team’s point of view. They’re all extremely in tune. They all get the notifications for their drivers. They all coach immediately. The accuracy is great.

2. Prioritize speed in real-time alerts and insights

Even the most accurate AI can’t make an impact if insights arrive too late. For FusionSite Services, the speed of Motive’s real-time alerts made all the difference. The speed in which events came in allowed FusionSite to actively manage their driver population. With real-time visibility into unsafe behaviors, managers could intervene quickly and prevent issues from escalating.

At 479 trucks, when we first installed Motive, we had 76 claims in that period of time. Year to date, with over 1,000 vehicles, we’ve had one claim. That’s an insane reduction — a 98.68% reduction.

3. Demand transparency from your AI provider

Both fleets said that visibility into how AI works is just as important as what it delivers.

“You have to understand what your provider is doing with that data, how they’re using it, how it’s improving the system,” Jaffe said. “You have to understand what type of relationship you’re going to have with that partner, and make sure you check those boxes before you make a decision.”

That level of transparency builds trust, and for both fleets, it was an important part of Motive’s partnership.

4. Choose technology that’s easy to use and simple to adopt

For FusionSite Services, usability was a deciding factor. A system that’s hard to install or difficult to navigate slows adoption and adds cost.

“With Motive’s ease of use and easy installation, FusionSite has seen about a 98% adoption of drivers within the first week of use of this application,” Ennis said. “In our entire fleet, within one week of a driver joining FusionSite Services, they’re logging in, they’re doing their DVIRs. We’re down to 2% unidentified trips.”The simplicity of setup and day-to-day use helped drive immediate adoption across FusionSite’s fleet. With technology that’s simple to install and easy to use, adoption happens naturally and quickly.

5. Validate performance through hands-on benchmarking

FusionSite and Agmark show what best-in-class AI looks like in action — but they also prove why validation matters. Performance claims don’t mean much until they’re tested in the real world.

“It was ingrained in me a long time ago to try before you buy, if possible,” Jaffe said.

And Ennis agreed that validation is everything. “Don’t settle for marketing claims,” he said. “We had a really great partnership with Motive to conduct a proper pilot, a proper evaluation period. I would conduct a very aggressive pilot period and fully use the tool.”
