What are the intrastate hours-of-service rules?
Intrastate Hours of Service refer to hours-of-service regulations for drivers operating within lines of a particular state. According to the FMCSA’s Interstate Truck Driver’s Guide to Hours of Service, if drivers operate in interstate commerce only, the FMCSA hours-of-service regulations do not apply to them.
Though FMCSA hours-of-service regulations may not apply to intrastate operators, most states have regulations that are either similar or identical to the FMCSA’s regulations. The FMCSA recommends that drivers reach out to appropriate state agency to find out which safety requirements they must follow. State agencies include the state police, highway patrol, or an office within the state’s department of transportation.
