What are the hours-of-service rules for non-CDL drivers?
Non-CDL drivers are subject to the same regulations as CDL drivers. Non-CDL drivers who drive short distances in a commercial vehicle qualify for the non-CDL short-haul exception, according to the FMCSA’s Interstate Truck Driver’s Guide to Hours of Service.
The non-CDL short-haul exception applies to drivers who:
- Drive a truck classified as a commercial motor vehicle but doesn’t require a CDL.
- Work within a 150-air-mile radius of their normal work reporting location and return to that location each day.
