How many hours can a CDL driver drive in a day?
The FMCSA authorizes CDL drivers a maximum of 11 hours of drive time in a 24-hour period.
- With the 11-hour driving limit, a driver can drive a maximum of 11 hours after being off duty for 10 consecutive hours.
- The 14-hour limit, however, states that a driver can’t drive beyond the 14th consecutive hour after being off duty for 10 hours.
