How many hours can team drivers drive?
The FMCSA’s Interstate Truck Driver’s Guide to Hours of Service outlines a provision that allows team drivers to stay moving on the road. Under the provision, one driver on a team can drive for 10 hours while the second driver obtains a full daily rest period without having to stay in the sleeper berth for 10 straight hours.
The second driver can take eight hours in the sleeper berth and two hours in the passenger seat to meet their required off-duty hours, and can then switch places with the first driver.
