How many hours can a semi-truck driver drive?

Most semi-truck drivers fall under the umbrella of property-carrying drivers according to the FMCSA’s hours-of-service regulations. The hours-of-service regulations dictate safety-related rules, including how long drivers can drive during a single shift, when drivers are required to take a break, and how much time they have to take off between shifts.

Drivers of property-carrying vehicles may drive a maximum of 11 hours after 10 consecutive hours off duty. Passenger-carrying drivers may drive a maximum of 10 hours after eight consecutive hours off duty.
