Thanks Aman. Over the course of this presentation, we’ll talk about five different types of chapters across Motive today. One is how are you going to solve our construction growth and challenges today? How do you improve safety and protect your business? How do you make sure that you enhance your fleet’s productivity and reduce maintenance costs and unauthorized asset use to improve profitability? And lastly, we’ll say, why Motive?
So, construction right now is expected to be one of the fastest-growing industries in technology. Construction is also, because of that, on the cusp of a digital transformation. Successful construction companies see this as a giant opportunity and are taking proactive steps to power their business with the right technology from Mohawk Materials to Rosendin Electric are all using fleet management in order to gain more visibility into their projects.
According to a McKinsey report on construction’s digital future, large construction projects are often over budget by as much as 80% and they take 20% longer than planned. To remain an industry leader, construction businesses need reliable technology solutions that assist in raising productivity across the board. As you all know, on this call today, there are major hindrances to the growth of construction businesses alike. Inside are two structural challenges. The cost of inputs is higher than ever.
Fuel, insurance, maintenance, and equipment costs are continuously increasing. The labor market, as we all know, is challenging. There’s record-low unemployment that makes it hard to retire and retain staff. Finding, training, and retaining skilled, motivated employees is difficult in any economic climate, much less than the one we face today.
That’s exactly what we have built here. To help with these problems, our automated operations platform is a fully integrated suite of products that connect and automate physical operations. And our vision for the future is one where technology automates the management of physical operations in an integrated way, transforming the safety, productivity, and profitability of millions of businesses. And with that, we want to ask you, what is your number-one challenge that you face today?
With that, I’ll launch the poll right now to identify and see. Please take another 10 seconds and then we’ll close the poll and then we’ll share the results. Perfect. Thank you. So, without a doubt, labor shortage as well as access to new technology is ever more important. So, sitting on top of our IoT platform are a range of applications that automate major workflows that are critical to running a safe, productive, and profitable business.
Driver safety, compliance, spend management, and so much more. And you all know and see this. The three tenants for managing your construction fleet is safety, OSHA regulations are continuously happening. Incidents that are occurring on the job site as well as inside. With compliance as well as inside, drivers and vehicles. There’s productivity challenges.
How do you connect your field-to-office across the board, especially today with multiple projects happening all at once, and profitability drinking margins across the board? Specialty contractors who once faced up to 40% margins are now cut by 20%. General contractors who once had 4 to 6% margins are getting cut by 50%. Now, how do we make sure that we automate a lot of these operations so you can do more?
Plus, let’s take a look at how Motive helps enhance your fleet safety. So, to see the value in an effective safety program, it’s important to understand the cost of poor safety. Now, we’ve surveyed our construction customers across the board and these are some of the results that we got. It’s estimated that profits are cut by 30% due to safety hazards, equipment loss, and equipment misuse. And 87% of accidents are caused by correctable driver behavior.
What does that mean? So let’s talk about driver safety. Motive is the absolute leader here. Our AI Dashcam detects unsafe driving behavior like cellphone use, drowsiness, and close following with unrivaled accuracy, which means we prevent more accidents than any other dash cam in the market today. But we don’t stop there.
Our in-house safety team analyzes every video to determine the concepts of each event so you aren’t overwhelmed with safety videos that don’t matter. Motive then automatically coaches your drivers through AI automation immediately after a safety event when they are most likely to remember the situation. To apply that learning, we’ve built a fully automated driver safety platform that actually helps prevent accidents.
With Motive, you’re able to protect your business from preventable accidents, job hazards, and rising premiums. So you can reduce safety risks and improve driver safety with an AI Dashcam and integrated safety platform so you can automate coaching with personalized timely feedback on critical unsafe behaviors. And, you can save and share evidence from events and know what really happened on road or project accidents alike.
Now, don’t take it just for me. Here’s one of our current customers, Rosendin Electric, who needs help considerably in terms of reducing cell phone usage with their AI Dashcam in terms of developing a data-driven rewards program for drivers, better coaching, 57% reduction in hard braking, and improved project visibility as a whole. Now, the question I’m going to ask you is, when was the last time your company had a safety incident?
We’re going to close the poll, so it seems like 40% in the last 30 days was the last time that safety incidents occurred. And in so many cases, our Dashcam allows you to not only achieve improved driver safety, our Motive AI Dashcam also helps to simplify payroll practices and improve customer satisfaction. And we’ll talk about how we help also with GPS updates even in remote areas.
So let’s take a look at how Motive helps enhance your fleet’s productivity. You’ve all seen this before. This is a slide that kind of resembles on a day-to-day basis what you all go through, right? The field is saying one thing and then the office is saying another. Enhanced visibility and communication between the office and the field can not only increase productivity and lower costs, but good communication ultimately leads to more satisfied employees and customers.
That’s why Motive has integrated centralized communication which assists in the collaboration between the field and the office and leads to improved coordination, productivity, and accuracy. I remember being on the field once and it was funny to see so many different types of communication was often laid out not only through Taco Bell wrappers, but who can relate to that? Or on Domino’s pizza boxes, or through SMS, or through one-off emails, and things were always continuously lost, right?
Understanding where your equipment was at any given moment in time, understanding where your materials were, these were all affecting cycle times. And that’s something that, with Motive, we’re able to help in terms of ideating when projects are getting done, ideating when things are getting delivered, and really understanding inside each project the coordination of your labor as well, which is extremely impactful.
And then another challenge negatively affecting productivity is a lack of visibility. This is how we improve visibility. We allow you to see where your drivers, assets, materials, and equipment are so you can optimize utilization. We allow you to see how your equipment is being used in real time, even in remote areas. Connect your team and fleet for faster collaboration as well.
We allow you to create workflows designed for your project. You can track historical actions such as time on a specific job site, or you can even leverage GPS tracking and reporting to track ETAs and billable hours. Our telematics, hardware, and sensors are the tools that bring these capabilities to light.
When you take your vehicles and equipment online, you gain real-time visibility, real time, up to the millisecond visibility into the location and utilization of every asset you operate. No matter where that asset is, across multiple project sites, you’re able to understand fully where your assets, vehicles, and labor are. We stream location and telematics data with higher precision and frequency than any other provider today.
Our automated alerts allow you to configure exactly how you want to leverage that data in your business. Let’s take a look at this quick case study from Equipment Corporation of America. They needed a solution to help them increase productivity and safety. They chose Motive because the system is easy to use and learn, allowing their drivers and techs to focus on the customer. Their Motive solution increased productivity. It also simplified drivers’ logs, improved scheduling, and improved customer service.
And I want to double tap on the ease of use. We all know because of the labor shortage, there are foremen out there that are getting older in age and hate applications. Our ease of use is what’s brought us and really created an overwhelming amount of gratitude for Motive because it takes two clicks to operate any simple workflow. And that’s really what separates us. Now, with that, I want to ask, what new technologies are you implementing today in your construction projects?
Great. So I see there’s people that are going around, but I see an overwhelming tide actually. So what we have, here is 43% is dash cam safety; 43% is tracking and telematics solutions; another 43% is project management tools to help with coordination. So let’s talk a little bit about our tracking and telematics solutions entirely. So I want to wrap up this section on productivity.
Our solutions help you address those structural challenges that help to head-on reduce costs while helping you increase your cycle times and provide better project delivery. We’ve helped over 120,000 customers unlock their potential. It can help businesses with talent technology that allows them to increase labor productivity, streamline communication, lower maintenance costs, prevent unexpected downtime, improve cash flow, increase customer satisfaction, track assets, and prevent accidents.
We automatically detect diagnostic codes so that you can take preventive action. We also provide a fully customizable inspection experience for your drivers so that you can be sure that your vehicles and equipment are safe to operate. And you can also manage your maintenance schedule and get automatic alerts when maintenance is due. So full visibility into your fleet operations, from inspections all the way to tracking and telematics solutions, to dash cam safety, and to improving your tools for coordination and collaboration across the board.
And here’s another customer or a case study of ours who’s TZC Services, who are located in Midland, Texas, who conduct support services for hydro excavation. We help TZC achieve improved driver safety with their Motive AI Dashcam, simplify their payroll practices, and improve their customer satisfaction with accurate GPS updates even in remote areas.
So with that, I know we just walk through the various problems we solve for our customers. But I also want to touch on what sets Motive apart, and why our customers get so much value out of our platform. And I’ll introduce Aman again here, so we’ll talk you through that.
15:27 | Aman Shahi
Hi everyone. Thanks for that great overview, Sina, to kick us off. What I’m going to speak about in this section is the mode of difference. And so I’ll start by giving an overview of our current business and how many customers we serve today. So we have over 120,000 businesses that are using our hardware paired with our software today.
They have an aggregate of 700,000 plus vehicles and assets. There’s more than a million drivers that are operating those vehicles. And we have 150,000 facilities that have been geofenced by our team that are indicating where ports, logistics facilities, warehouses, a number of different facilities are located throughout North America — as Sina alluded to a number of times.
We are the all-in-one fleet management for your construction vehicles and equipment. It all starts with our IoT devices. We have our Vehicle Gateway, our AI Dashcam, our Asset Gateway, and our Environmental Sensor all made ourselves. There’s proprietary hardware that we build from the ground up. We architect, we manufacture. And those IoT devices stream data up to our Motive data platform here.
This middle layer on the diagram, that’s where we have a lot of cutting-edge technology that is making sense of all of that data, is modeling that data out so that it can create actionable insights and power the software that you’ll see here at the top level. So we have applications that span everything from tracking and telematics to safety, to maintenance and fuel.
And we have integrations across the entire technology landscape to make sure that you’re able to scale this solution with whatever else you need to interact with and whatever the rest of your technology stack looks like, which we know is absolutely critical given how many different needs there are for the modern business.
One thing we really pride ourselves on is the way that our products are integrated. You don’t need to go to one provider for a telematics device, another provider for a dash cam, another provider for an Asset Gateway or the various software modules that work with those pieces of hardware. We build this from the ground up ourselves, as I mentioned earlier, and all of it works seamlessly together.
So you have complete visibility across all the different aspects of your construction fleet in a single home without needing to log into a bunch of different places and keep various tabs open on, what I’m sure is, a very cluttered desktop if you’re in the back office. And so that integration is key because it makes sure that everything works seamlessly together. We also have significantly invested in our artificial intelligence-driven automation.
So we develop cutting-edge models with industry-leading accuracy. That takes a lot of the manual work that has traditionally required a lot of time and effort on the part of members of the teams of these different fleets. And we automate it. So a great example is our safety product that has automated coaching. So our Dashcam will monitor driver behavior. It will identify unsafe behaviors that could be something like smoking while driving, or what you’re seeing here, a distracted driver looking at their cell phone.
Our cutting-edge technology on the Dashcam itself will actually identify this and chirp out an alert saying, hey, keep your eyes on the road. Which wasn’t possible a couple of years ago. But thanks to our innovation, here is something that we have right out of the box with our dual-facing dash cam, and then that will actually roll up into a back office functionality where you can automate the driver coaching conversation.
So we’ll say, hey, for this driver, there were a number of incidents where you had some sort of unsafe behavior. We’re going to walk you through those incidents, we’re going to show you the video — and that’s basically right out of the box, a driver safety program that you’re able to implement. So these are the kinds of things where we’re taking the best-in-class hardware. We’re modeling that data and then we’re taking it a step further and saying, how do we take this cool technology but make it meaningful for the day-to-day lives of our customers so that they can do less of this work and more focus on the higher priority items across the board?
And finally, Sina mentioned how our customers really, really enjoy the way that our products work. We really pride ourselves on excellence in design. These products are easy to use, they’re intuitive, they’re smart, and they look nice, which is important, of course. And so we have really invested in that design across the board, from the hardware to the software, on both the web aspect, the web applications that we have, as well as the native mobile applications for both drivers, as well as fleet managers that you can have on your device on the go.
And once we bring you on as a customer, we support you from implementation through deployment and onwards. So our deployment services are really designed to help you accelerate your success. So we will work with you directly to scope out all the different needs that you might have for your fleet. We will have a kickoff meeting with you to really start the process of that change management.
We’ll help to train anybody who’s needed, or critical to your operations. And then we’ll help to roll out and make sure that things are going as planned. We will check in regularly, we’ll gather feedback as needed, and then we will make sure that we solve any issues that may come up. And then after we’ve completed this initial deployment, we hand off to our customer success manager, who would be a dedicated POC for your fleet moving forward. This is something that we really invest in.
We have more than 400 employees in customer support roles to ensure that every customer is successful. We are focused on enterprise support so that we can provide rapid resolution and solutions for our large customers. We have dedicated support engineers who help to resolve issues very quickly. We take a proactive approach so we monitor issues on our end and then we make sure that we escalate and address those issues proactively as opposed to needing to hear it from our customers.
And, we have a number of support resources for you to apprise, whether that’s our help center or having a 24/7 chat assistant. And so you’re seeing here a pretty rapid growth in both the solutions that we’ve offered as well as the customers that we’ve brought on. This is just the last six years, which is pretty staggering. So six years ago we had virtually no customers. Today we have more than 120,000 customers.
We started out as an ELD compliance solution, but very quickly started to build out all of the different components of a fleet management platform that can cover all the use cases across the different needs in a construction portfolio. And today we have a number of large customers in the construction space, as you can see here, who call us their fleet management provider and this has been recognized by the industry.
These are a number of the accolades that we have collected over the years to really recognize both our cutting-edge technology as well as our dedication to our customers and the way that we’re able to differentiate ourselves as an easy-to-use and beloved platform by the folks who trust us to deliver this kind of technology for them.
And so as far as next steps go, we would love to personalize a demo to really make this real for your specific use cases, go through these different functionalities, and answer any questions in a much more personalized venue. So you can visit us at gomotive.com/solutions/construction to see more detail and also sign up for a demo slot with our sales team.

Thanks, Aman for that. And with that, we’re going to open up the question poll for any questions that you guys may have. I know if you’re coming in, Aman, I think that the first one maybe you can help answer is why do we build our own hardware?
25:19 | Aman Shahi
Yeah, great question. It’s a lot of work. So we made a very conscious decision to say, hey, we are going to go through the design process, the architecture process, the sourcing process, to actually build our own hardware from the ground up, which is not something every fleet management provider can say.
I think it’s pretty common to take some shortcuts here and source hardware from somewhere else or partner with another company to sort of integrate, and that’s faster for the provider. But what it loses you is the ability to really ensure all aspects from the hardware to the software work together properly. And it makes it much faster for resolution when something goes wrong because your team knows everything about that piece of hardware and how it interacts with the cloud and where the software lives.
So we’ve made a very principle decision to do this, and it’s paid dividends. Our Asset Gateway, our Vehicle Gateway, our Dashcams, our Environmental Sensors, they all work together seamlessly. They’re all visible in a very intuitive way in our dashboard. And we’re very proud of that decision that we’ve made.
26:37 | Sina Falaki
Great answer. And a lot of that is culminating around ease of use, where you could see through our iOS ratings into two ratings and trust radius ratings about people that rave about us. So another great question is, what has been the biggest technological advancement in this space in the last few years? If you want to answer that one.
27:03 | Aman Shahi
One, yeah, it’s a great question. It’s tough to peg this to a single thing, given how much advancement has been made. It’s truly staggering. When you think about where we were ten or 15 years ago versus today, I would probably say it’s the ability to conduct very advanced machine learning algorithms on hardware itself. So what does that mean? Our dual-facing Dashcam will be able to actually, it’s perfect.
You can kind of see on the screenshot we have up on the bottom right, this square around a man’s face and their cell phone. What’s happening there is our Dashcam is actually in real time on the Dashcam itself, running calculations to say, this is a man’s face, this is a phone, and they have moved their head down to look away from the road. We’re doing that in real time.
So in the past, technology would take that information, send it up to the cloud, and then in the cloud, there’d be an algorithm that runs that says all of the things I just mentioned to say, hey, this person is distracted by a cell phone. But by the time that information is processed and sent back to the camera, they may have looked away back to the road. So you don’t want the Dashcam to chirp out to you, hey, keep your eyes on the road after you’ve put your cell phone down 15 seconds ago.
What’s happened, because of the advances in chip technology and the ability for us to do this in a more efficient way, is that all these calculations happen on the camera itself, which allows the camera to chirp out to you in real time. These kinds of coaching tips are saving lives today. Through our technology, we’re able to prevent some of the most damaging unsafe behavior from occurring on our customers’ fleets. And that is not something that was possible five or 10 years ago, just given the state of technology.
29:12 | Sina Falaki
And that’s going to double tap on that AI advancement. And really, what is able to be done in terms of enhancing the back office productivity as well, being able to integrate all the different types of applications into one platform, not having to do your double data entry continuously proceed from material costs that are happening on the spot in the field and flying that back to the office. That stuff is burdensome.
So I just wanted to kind of double tap on that as well. And one last question we have is, do you guys help with team training programs? I know we alluded a little bit to this on the customer success side and implementation, but Aman, can you talk us through that a little bit more about how we help with training?
30:01 | Aman Shahi
Yeah, we have a very personalized approach. I think that’s something that really differs in the way that we think about this. So it’s common for providers to sort of give you a playbook and a bunch of resources that you then are responsible for deploying in the way that you see fit. Where we really differentiate ourselves here is by partnering with you in a very, very clear and close way.
So we will come on-site. We will sort out what your specific requirements are and how they may differ from any other use case, just given the way that you’ve set up your organization or how you operate. And then we will tailor our onboarding resources to those needs and make sure we do whatever it takes to make our platform work as you intend and to make sure that you’re extracting maximum value. So I think we provide a lot of support here, we make sure that it’s very personalized.
31:03 | Sina Falaki
Thanks for that. And with that, I want to wrap us up, and as Aman mentioned, please reach out for any sort of personalized demo or to learn more about how we provide solutions for the construction industry, gomotive.com/construction.
