Challenge

With a mix of time-sensitive operations and varied vehicle types — from box vans to smaller vans — Chyone faced a clear challenge: getting a complete picture of what’s happening on the road, no matter what. The team needed better visibility into driver safety and behaviour without slowing down day-to-day operations.

Their previous road-facing dashcam system wasn’t built for it.

“It would take me 30 minutes to download footage, and there was no AI detection or flagging to help identify incidents,” said Morgan Bedford, Country Business and Fleet Manager at Chyone Logistics.

Without AI-powered event detection or real-time insights, the team was left manually searching for issues — wasting valuable time and making it harder to respond quickly to safety concerns, liability questions, or driver coaching opportunities. The process of retrieving footage alone routinely took up to two hours per incident. And without automatic cloud-saving, critical footage was frequently lost altogether. In one case, an unreported incident occurred on a Saturday; by the time management was notified on Tuesday, the footage had already been overwritten — leaving the company with nothing to work with and no way to defend their driver.

Solution

To modernise its safety programme and gain more operational control, Chyone partnered with Motive and began rolling out Motive AI Dashcam Plus across its fleet.

“With Motive, we can now monitor smoking in the cab, which we couldn’t coach on before,” Bedford said.

Results

Chyone has already seen measurable improvements in driver behaviour and early signs of meaningful cost savings.

67% reduction in risky driving events in 10 days

After enabling Motive’s AIDC+ in-cab alerts, Chyone saw a dramatic drop in risky driving events.

“Within just 10 days of enabling Motive’s AIDC+ in-cab alerts, we reduced risky driving events from 1,200 to 400 — a 67% reduction,” Bedford said.

This early result reinforced what Chyone needed most: a system that doesn’t just record incidents, but actively helps prevent them.

In-cab behaviour standard enforcement was historically a massive blind spot for management. Through a combination of automated tracking and policy enforcement via the Motive AI Dashcam Plus, Chyone achieved a 54.5% reduction in smoking events inside company vehicles between January and April. Bedford expects these metrics to improve even further as they expand the rollout across the remainder of the fleet.

Motive’s instant cloud-retrieval capabilities completely altered how Chyone manages claims, resulting in two major driver exonerations totaling approximately £20,000 in claims value.

• The serious collision: A third party abruptly pulled out in front of a Chyone van in dense traffic, completely writing off the vehicle. Thanks to high-quality Motive footage available immediately at the scene, the third-party insurer admitted liability within three working days—compressing a process that typically stretches for weeks or months.
• Quality footage for police: When an unfair police speeding fine arrived, Chyone provided a screenshot of the driver inside the van alongside matching telematics data to support the driver’s appeal. The police formally responded that the provided evidence was “first-class”, swiftly dismissing the penalty.

Fuel savings and operational efficiency

With Motive, Chyone can now track idling and fuel-usage trends across vehicles—an important step toward reducing avoidable costs. Visibility into idling patterns helps the team identify where vehicles are left running unnecessarily and where coaching or policy changes can drive savings.

“The platform is saving us hundreds of pounds each week,” Bedford said. “It’s given us clear visibility into idling and fuel use.”

As rollout expands across more vehicles, Chyone expects savings to scale with it.

Stronger compliance and accountability

The Motive AI Dashcam Plus has also helped Chyone enforce key policies and maintain accountability — especially in areas that previously relied on inconsistent reports or anecdotal feedback.

Overcoming the Driver Privacy Hurdle

Implementing inward-facing AI cameras can often spark resistance among drivers. As a former driver, Bedford anticipated these concerns and addressed them transparently from day one.

“With any camera system, a driver’s natural reaction is, ‘Why are you watching me?’ I understand that because I started as a driver myself,” Bedford shared. “So, we were upfront from day one. We explained that this is about safety, evidence, and fairness—not catching drivers out for the sake of it.”

The turning point for fleet culture came when drivers saw the technology working for them. Once drivers experienced firsthand how instant video evidence exonerated colleagues from false claims and unfair fines, skepticism eased.

“Once you have examples where the driver is exonerated because the evidence proves they weren’t at fault, the conversation changes,” Bedford said.
